Thomas B. Saunders V

Thomas B. Saunders V is a sixth generation rancher and horseman. He is a descendant of the prominent Saunders clan that came to Texas in 1850 and established prospering cattle commission companies in Ft. Worth, San Antonio, and Houston, Texas, and put together additional holdings that are now known as Twin V Ranch and Saunders Cattle Co. in Parker County, Texas.

Cow and horse sense are bred into Thomas, and his expertise has taken him from university classrooms to movie sets and foreign lands. Thomas has started cutting and ranch horses under saddle for more than 30 years for numerous ranches in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and California. Thomas has served as production manager and stock contractor for major events such as the Fort Worth Stock Show, Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, American Quarter Horse Association Versatility Ranch Horse World Championship and the Road to the Horse. He served as boss wrangler of the Ray Hunt Tribute as well as multiple movies and productions. In addition to providing stock for television commercials and pilots, Thomas provided twenty head of cast horses for the movie “The Alamo” and provided cast horses and acted as a stuntman for the movie “Second Hand Lions.”

Thomas has worked side-by-side with horsemen such as Chris Cox, Craig Cameron, and Terry Crofoot, and he has seen many outstanding approaches to advanced horsemanship techniques. Thomas has taken his approach to horsemanship and passed it on to the next generation of great horsemen through seminars and clinics, including the American Quarter Horse Association International Horsemanship Seminars in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. A natural teacher and a supporter of education, Thomas is a member of the advisory committees for the equine programs at Texas A&M University and Colorado State University.

Thomas’ adventures take him across the country and around the world, but his biggest adventure always finds him back home working the family ranch with his parents, Tom B and Ann, his wife, Lynn, and his daughters, Maddy and Leslie Ann.

Most anyone who knows Thomas will tell you that he is the life of the party and has an innate ability to make people feel comfortable in his presence. He has an uncanny way of meeting someone right where they are and helping to build them up. This is as true with horses as it is with people. Thomas is a gifted story teller, an adventurer, and a cowboyin’ son of a gun, and he is a shining example of our great western way of life.
